Nocturnal gunfight breaks out in Pinjura Shopian

Shopian: A nocturnal gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Pinjura village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

An official said that a joint team of Shopian Police, army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said tha as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter.

A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of fire between forces and militants.

As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

Pertinently this is second encounter in the district in less than 24 hours

On Sunday, 5 militant including a top hizb commander were killed in an encounter at Reban Village in Zainapora belt of the district following which internet services were snapped in Shopian and Kulgam districts of southern Kashmir—(KNO)
