Handwara, March 28: A militant was killed in a gunfight with the forces in Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara on Thursday.
“Based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara, a cordon and search operation was launched by Police and security forces in the area.As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militant is being ascertained, “police said in a statement.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. Incriminating materials including rifle and grenades were recovered from the site of encounter.
