Leh to Manali: Kashmir’s ace cyclist eyes another Guinness World Record

Srinagar: After completing the fastest bicycle journey between Kashmir and Kanyakumari, Valley’s ace cyclist Adil Teli is all set for yet another Guinness World Record attempt.

Adil had last year set a Guinness World Record for covering Kashmir to Kanyakumari in ‘8 days, 1 hr and 39 minutes and now will attempt another record for Leh to Manali circuit on Friday morning.

Leh to Manali region is considered to be a high altitude and dangerous terrain for cyclists. Present Guinness Record for the distance is 34 hours and 54 minutes.

Adil said he had spent 45 days in the Ladakh region to prepare for his next Guinness World Record attempt.

“I was in Ladakh where I underwent rigorous training for 45 days to prepare for the record attempt. Leh-Manali is a high altitude and dangerous terrain and cycling in this circuit are tough. Setting a Guinness World Record for covering Kashmir to Kanyakumari has given me a lot of confidence and I am hopeful that I will better the previous record for Leh to Manali,” Adil told The Kashmir Monitor.

Adil, who hails from Narbal in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, said the Leh to Manali bicycle journey will be flagged off from TRC Srinagar tomorrow at 8.30 am.

The intimidating Leh-Manali route has attracted lots of adventure enthusiasts especially cyclists in the recent past. The route is known for its high mountain passes and windy roads and at times cyclists have complained of breathlessness during their journeys.

Interestingly, after setting the Guinness World Record last year, Adil’s achievements had been profiled by the History channel.

“Meet the superhuman Adil Teli who rode his bike from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari in record time…,” History Channel stated on its social media handles.

Adil had broken the previous Guinness World record of ‘8 days 7 hours 38’ minutes by Om Mahajan for Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

In 2019, Teli completed another cycling journey of 440 km from Srinagar to Leh covering the distance in 26 hours and 30 minutes.
