KU students, faculty members remember slain Professor

Srinagar, May 9: Students of Kashmir University on Wednesday held a peaceful protest in support of slain Professor Muhammad Rafi who was killed in a gunfight on Sunday at Budigam village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Large number of students from different departments of Varsity assembled in the campus premises and remembered the slain Professor.
Besides students, large number of faculty members of different departments of University and Research Scholars were present in the protest.
The protesting students carried a banner that read: “in memory of Shaheed Dr Rafi and all those who died for our freedom.”
One of the faculty members said that there are only few students from Sociology subject who have qualified Junior Research Fellowship and Rafi was one among them. “Dr Rafi was a bright and brilliant Professor who was articulate and full of charisma,” he added.
“Dr Rafi qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) thrice. He was topper in State Eligibility Test (SET). There were 25 national and international Research publications in his name besides he had presented his papers in 10 conferences,” the faculty members said.
Rafi was also shortlisted for Assistant Professor Post at Central University Hyderabad.
