Srinagar: Forget ‘ Veg Wazwan’ row, Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor is trying to ‘get connected’ to the Kashmiri cuisine these days.
Kapoor feels Kashmiri cuisine counts among the ‘top three exotic foods’ of India and he wants to spread its aroma across the world.
“If I talk about India, names of three places come up that have exotic food. One is Hyderabad and then food of Goa too is considered exotic. Kashmir’s food too counts among the top three exotic foods….I am trying to get connected to Kashmir’s food and identify its taste so that I spread the aroma of its food across the world,” Kapoor told reporters here on Friday.
The celebrity chef, whose shows are extremely popular on TV and social media, is currently on a visit to the Valley. He is accompanying the team from Bollywood production houses that was on a four-day visit to the Valley to explore locations for upcoming film projects.
Kapoor said the cuisine of Kashmir needed to be promoted just like its beauty.
“We have always heard that Kashmir is heaven but even in heaven we need ‘lazzat’ (taste). In coming times, Kashmir should also be known for its ‘lazzat’ just like its beauty,” he said.
He said Kashmir needed a food-based tourism campaign on the lines of ‘Restaurant Australia’.
“In several countries a lot of work has been done in this regard. For the past few years in Australia, there has been a national tourism campaign on food like our Incredible India campaign. Australia started a food based tourism campaign ‘Restaurant Australia’. Food tickles all the five senses. All senses are at play when you are talking of food,” said Kapoor.
He was also seen sharing pictures of his visit to North Kashmir ski resort Gulmarg on social media.
“Thank you Jammu & Kashmir Tourism for giving us a fabulous start to 2021. Alyona & I had ‘snow’ much fun at Gulmarg! Super excited to go on a trip after so long & this is just perfect!” he wrote on his Facebook page and Twitter handle.
