Journalists protest thrashing of colleagues by troopers

Srinagar, Oct 12: Media persons on Friday staged a protest sit-in against CRPF at Janglat Mandi in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district alleging the paramilitary thrashed two of their colleagues and damaged their cameras.
The reporters Fayaz Lolu and Deen Imran working with national TV channels said they were beaten up by CRPF troops of 40 bn at Ashajipora, Anantnag on (Monday) late afternoon while they were performing their professional duties.
The troops also damaged our cameras and cell phones, the reporters said.
They said the incident took place when the media persons were covering protests in the area amid shutdown against the killing of Hizb commander Manan Wani.
Meanwhile, the Anantnag Working Journalists Association (AWJA) held a sit-in protest and demanded FIR against the CRPF men.
The concerned SHO told GNS that he will record the statement of the media persons who were allegedly beaten up.
“FIR will be lodged and action taken accordingly,” the officer said.
