Highway robbery gang busted in Kashmir, two arrested

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir police Tuesday said it busted a gang involved in highway robbery and arrested the two accused while recovering stolen property worth thousands of rupees.

A police spokesperson said that on August 21, police station Awantipora received a complaint from one truck driver Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Hari Ganwan Kangan who said that some goons stopped his truck bearing registration number JK05A-6896 at NHW Lethpora and looted two mobile phones and Rs 10,000 cash from him.

A case FIR No. 111/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation was initiated, the spokesperson said.

“During the course of investigation, Officers taking aid of modern and scientific methods of investigation were able to identify two accused persons involved in the commission of crime. They have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat resident of Malikangan Fathekadal Srinagar and Uzair Yousuf Dar resident of Babapora Sheeltang Habakadal Srinagar,” he added.

“Subsequently, they have been arrested and shifted to police station Awantipora where they remain in custody. Looted amount of Rs 10,000/- have also been recovered from their possession. Further investigation in this regard is in progress,” he said.
