Govt employee injured in ‘accidental fire’ in Srinagar

Srinagar: An employee of the J&K Information Department sustained a gunshot wound after the weapon of a Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel went off “accidentally” at Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar on Saturday.

News agency KNO reported that Ghulam Nabi, who works as a driver in the department, sustained bullet wound after the rifle of SSB official posted with 10 Battalion D-Company, at J-55 government quarters in Jawahar Nagar went off “accidentally”.

“The driver was immediately removed to the hospital where he is being treated,” the official said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered to find out how the rifle of SSB man went off.

“The bullet that came out of the riffle of SSB man first hit the wall and then the driver,” officials said, according to the news agency

The incident created panic in the area after which officials rushed to the spot.

“An inquiry has been ordered. So far the condition of driver is stable,” the report added.

The incident took place at a time when J&K is observing I-Day amid tight security cover everywhere. (KNO)
