Day 2 of Baramulla encounter: Third militant killed, injured soldier succumbs, toll 8

Srinagar: A third militant has been killed in the ongoing operation in Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district which entered its second day on Tuesday.

The army soldier injured on Monday too had succumbed taking the death toll in the attack and encounter that began Monday morning to eight – five forces personnel and three militants.

Official sources said that after resuming the operation this morning, one more militant was killed.

They said the slain militant is likely to be non-local and was inside a hideout eventually blasted by the armed forces using IED.

Searches are still underway in the area till this report was being filed.

On Monday, six including two CRPF troopers, one policeman, one Army soldier and two local LeT militants were killed in the attack followed by the gunfight.

An Army soldier who was critically injured has also succumbed.

In a press conference on Monday, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh identified one of the slain militants as top LeT Commander Sajad Haider from Sopore.

Haider, as per the DGP, was instrumental in recruiting new militants and was mastermind behind many attacks on security forces and political activists. (GNS inputs)
