Srinagar, Mar 27: The J&K Government has directed all district commissioners and superintendents of police to ensure that no religious gathering is allowed today in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

People have advised to avoid going to mosques for congregational Friday prayers and instead offer routine Zuhr prayers in their homes.

“DCs and SPs advised to strictly caution all religious leaders NOT to call any gatherings.  Public gatherings a major source of social contact and spread of the virus,” tweeted Government Spokesperson Rohit Kansal.

On Thursday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) asked Muslims to offer Zuhr prayers at home instead of offering congregational Friday prayers in mosques to avoid public gatherings and contain coronavirus pandemic.

“Muslims are recommended to offer Zuhur at home instead of praying Jumah at mosques. Don’t come out for congregational prayers & stay at homes. It is mandatory upon all to avoid causing harm to their fellow citizens,” the AIMPLB tweeted late Thursday evening.

It however added that around 4 people should attend the mosques regularly.

Kashmir so far has witnessed 11 positive cases of coronavirus. On Thursday, an elderly patient who was tested positive a few days ago passed away at a local hospital. The day also saw an two young children turning COVID-19 positive.
