Protest

Srinagar, Apr 12: A day after the class 7 student was killed in Mandigam village in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the residents of the village Friday sought stern action the involved personnel and demanded a judicial probe be initiated to identify the involved personnel.
However, the family of slain boy Owais Ahmad Mir said “nothing will happen” to those who killed their beloved.
“We have seen such kind of situation. Many youth were killed so far but no action has been taken against any personnel. There are many incidents where authorities announced inquiry but didn’t yield any result,” said father of the slain boy.
The locals who visited the bereaved family said that Owais, who was killed late Thursday evening after the culmination of first phase of elections, was innocent and was “targeted” by the forces outside his home.
“Owais was just outside his home where he was playing with his little friends but forces shot him twice in his head as well as chest, leaving him seriously wounded,” the locals said, adding that he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The slain student’s neighbours especially women were seen wailing at his house on Friday, raising slogans against the killing of the little boy.
The neighbours said that those at the helm should investigate the matter thoroughly and should take stern action against the trooper involved in his killing.
“A judicial probe must be initiated in this regard so that real culprits are brought to book,” the locals said.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Manigam village and adjacent village of Langate on Friday to protest against the student’s killing.
All the shops and other business establishments remained closed throughout the day while as the traffic was also thin on the roads.
