Srinagar, Sep 18: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday said that the party will not field any proxy candidate for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections in the state, slated to be held from October 08, 2018.
PDP chief spokesperson, Rafi Ahmad Mir while reacting to the reports about proxy candidates said, “There was no question of fielding any proxy candidate at this juncture.”
He said that the party keeping in view of the situation on ground that was created due to the Article 35-A case has already decided to boycott the upcoming elections.
PDP chief spokesperson said that the party is not against the democratic processes but at present, war like situation has been created in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the polls. “Several Panchayat ghars were set ablaze by unidentified persons so far. The party after thorough deliberations observed that the people at present are in no mood of Panchayat and ULB polls, therefore decided to stay away from the elections,” he said.
Mir said that the people at present are disturbed and it was imminent for the party to go with the aspirations of people.
He said that prior to the elections, the political parties have done several promises with the people but those promises have not been fulfilled. “There was a need to adopt people-friendly policy instead of showing arrogance,” he said, adding that the people-friendly policy would bear fruit.
Srinagar, Jammu to be brought on Mass Rapid Transit, Metro map
Jammu, Feb 21: The State Administrative Council (SAC) under the chairmanship of Governor, Satya Pal Malik approved the proposal for incorporation of two Corporations by the name “Jammu Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Private Limited” and “Srinagar Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Private Limited” along with the Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA) of these Corporations.
These Corporations which will be headed by the Administrative Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department will have on its Board, Administrative Secretaries of Finance and Transport; Transport Commissioner; CEOs of Economic Reconstruction Agencies and Metropolitan Authorities; and other experts besides nominee of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Corporation will have Chief Executive Officers to provide requisite leadership. The Corporations will also have Manager, Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer to be appointed by the respective Boards.
These Corporations will be extended arms of the Metropolitan Authorities (MRDAs), recently constituted by the Governors Administration, and will supplement these authorities especially in areas related to Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) and Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).
The two Corporations will be “Body Corporates” with distinct seals and private limited but fully owned by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Corporations will have initial authorized share capital of Rs 10 Crore divided into 1 crore shares of Rs 10 each which will be subscribed fully by the State Government. The authorized capital can be increased or decreased at any later stage depending on needs of the two Corporations.
These Corporations will be mandated to address the issues of urban mobility in the State in a holistic manner by providing safe, affordable, reliable and sustainable access for the city inhabitants to jobs, education, recreation etc. The Corporation will ensure an efficient well integrated and intelligent multi-modal public transport system for enhanced and hassle-free mobility in the Cities.
The Corporations will offer facilities in the form of running taxicabs, lorries, buses, cars, trucks, station wagons, motors, railways, rail motors from one place to another as intercity or intra-city services or BRTS feeder bus services for free movement of passengers, goods and merchandise.
The Corporations will undertake bus operations in Srinagar & Jammu to address the issues of congestion in the capital cities by inducting 300/400 buses each, which will provide a robust and reliable transportation system to the commuters.
The setting of the Corporations is expected to be a milestone in addressing the traffic issues in the State & Urban Mobility.
Div Com orders investigation into dumping of waste in Wular
Srinagar, Feb 21: Taking a serious note of dumping of waste material in Wular Lake, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today directed concerned officers to investigate the matter thoroughly and take action against officials found involved in the offence.
The Divisional Commissioner issued the directions while reviewing the progress of conservation and preservation works at world famous ‘Wular Lake’ by Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA).
He ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and sought detailed report on expenditure on preservation and conservation of the lake.
Khan issued directions to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora to inspect the dumping site personally and ensure that no person or any department violates the norms set for the protection and conservation of Wular Lake.
The DC was asked to launch a campaign about the need for maintaining cleanliness in the area surrounding the lake.
The Divisional Commissioner reiterated that conservation and Eco-restoration of the Wular Lake to its pristine glory is among the top priorities of the Government.
He stressed upon the need for beautification of embankments along the Wular Lake for Eco-tourism activities. He suggested for developing Bird watching sites, parks and other facilities along the fringes of the lake.
Khan directed WUCMA to re-double their efforts and utilise their expertise for the speedy Eco-restoration and conservation of the World famous Lake.
The CEO Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA), Project Coordinator Catchment Conservation, Coordinator Lake Water Management, Assistant Commissioner and other senior officers werepresent in the meeting.
Forge unity and give befitting reply to communal forces: Farooq
Srinagar, Feb 21: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday asserted that BJP is polarizing the country to hide its failures saying that it is time for all of us to forge unity and give a befitting reply to those who are hell-bent to destroy our social fabric.
Farooq Abdullah who was addressing a provincial working committee meeting here at party headquarters Nawa –e- Subha, Srinagar said, “With a reduced credibility BJP and its ideologue will again rack up the emotive issues. The situation that we are facing today is a grim reminder of how low the communal forces can stoop to axe their own grind. BJP faced with pulverizing debacles in Hindi heart is shifting to a higher level divisive politics,” adding, “RSS and its proxies in the state will try to polarize the situation by fanning passions because they have nothing to offer in terms of development and stability.”
Party president said that the people of the state should not fall prey to the divisive agenda of communal forces. “These forces, directly and indirectly, will try to vitiate the atmosphere but we as a peace-loving society should not allow ourselves to get swayed by their malicious propaganda,” he said adding “In the forthcoming elections people of the state will give befitting reply to such forces as are contriving to create friction between various regions of the state.”
Farooq while expressing concern over the unremitting intimidation, and attacks on Kashmiri traders, students putting across the country said, “The attacks have made Kashmiris putting up outside state insecure. The attacks cannot be singled out as a bout of impelled anger and frustration. The kind of warmongering and rhetoric retching against Kashmiris by certain media also played its role to vitiate the atmosphere,” he said.
Farooq while expressing dismay over the laid-back attitude of the incumbent governor administration in dealing with the incidents of violence in Jammu said, “Our politically proactive governor didn’t need to step out to pacify the masses and see to the difficulties of stranded Kashmir bound passengers in Jammu. He had shut his eyes and ears to the targeted violence against Kashmiris in Jammu.”
Farooq appreciated the efforts of the party’s Jammu provincial team for coming to the rescue of stranded Kashmir bound passengers by organizing free kitchens and securing safe transit of passengers. “The party functionaries in Banihal also provided relief to the distressed Kashmir bound passengers. I believe acts like these will help bridge the gap between regions. Such acts ought to be replicated and appreciated,” he said adding, “We also owe gratitude to the sane voices of India who unequivocally came out and denounced the violence against Kashmiris. I express thanks to communities, groups and politicians also who lend helping hand to distressed Kashmiris across the country,” he said.
He said that the party manifesto of Naya Kashmir abounds in a panacea for all the problems of the state. “A developed, peaceful state is what we will work for once in power. Our inclusive agenda of development sans regional, religious bias. Our party represents the aspirations of all regions of the state.” he added
