Srinagar, June 20: Belligerent People’s Democratic Party leader Abdul Haq Khan, who was recently ousted from the Cabinet by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is all set to ‘join’ Congress party.
Highly placed sources told news agency CNS that Khan had a detailed meeting with former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad. The meeting according to sources was facilitated by Congress Legislator from Sopore Haji Abdul Rashid.
Sources added that Abdul Haq Khan expressed his desire to join Congress party before Ghulam Nabi Azad. If sources are to be believed, Khan will soon be the new face of Congress party for frontier district Kupwara.
Sources in PDP informed that Khan didn’t attend the emergency meeting that was called by party president Mehbooba Mufti at her official Gupkar based residence shortly after BJP pulled out from alliance with PDP on Tuesday. Sources added that Abdul Haq Khan didn’t respond to the repeated phone calls of Mehbooba Mufti and when her brother Tasaduq Mufti contacted him, Khan pretended to be out of sorts.
Haji Rashid Dar, the Congress legislator confirmed the meeting between Abdul Haq Khan and Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said PDP humiliated Khan and there was no reason for him to attend the PDP meeting called by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Abdul Haq Khan refused to comment on the issue. (CNS)
