YouTube has launched a new AI-powered search results carousel designed to make it easier for users to discover relevant video content. The Google-owned platform made the announcement on Thursday, alongside an expansion of its conversational AI features to a broader user base.

The new carousel presents AI-generated topic summaries to help users find videos faster. For instance, searching for “best beaches in Hawaii” may yield a scrollable carousel showcasing video clips on top snorkel spots and volcanic beaches, complete with brief descriptions and suggestions for how to spend the day. According to YouTube, the feature is especially helpful for searches related to shopping, travel, and trip planning.

This experience mirrors Google’s AI Overviews in Search, which generates top-level summaries from multiple sources. However, the feature could impact video creators by reducing full video views, as users may find the summarized content sufficient.

Currently, the AI carousel is available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S.

In addition, YouTube has started rolling out its conversational AI tool to some non-Premium users in the U.S. Previously restricted to Premium subscribers using Android devices, the AI assistant can now answer questions, suggest related videos, and offer information without disrupting video playback.
