Srinagar, July 9: A woman was killed after attacked by unknown persons at Shah Gund area of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late Sunday evening. Reports reaching here said that a group masked men barged inside the house of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worker Abdul Majeed Dar at Shahgund and attacked his wife Shakeela with a sharp-edged weapon. Shakeela was critically injured in the attack, said an official, adding that she was shifted to Community Health Centre Hajin for treatment where from she was referred to JVC hospital Bemina Srinagar. Shakeela was declared brought dead on arrival, he said. Dar later said the attackers were “robbers, not militants”. “I had just returned home after an evening walk. In my absence, two gunmen had already entered my house. One of them had threatened my younger son with a pistol who remained confined to his room upstairs,” he said. “I had begun to pray when someone kept a pistol at my back. It was another masked gunman.” He said the gunmen questioned about his political affiliations, and then dragged him towards a locker. A scuffle ensued, he said. “The gunman stabbed my wife with a knife while trying to escape with cash and jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh. I got suspicious when he attempted to get away with the valuables. It was clear to me that he was not a militant but a robber,” he said. A police spokesman also confirmed the incident and said that police has registered a case in this regard and investigation has been initiated.
