Woman Assaulted In Public After Husband Complaints Against Her At Mosque

Bengaluru, April 14: A 38-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by a group of men in Bengaluru after her husband lodged a complaint against her at a local mosque over a domestic issue. The incident, which occurred outside the Jama Masjid in Tavarekere on April 9, was caught on camera and widely shared on social media, triggering public outrage.

The victim, identified as Shabina Banu, who works as a house help, was allegedly attacked with sticks and pipes, sustaining serious injuries.

According to officials, the chain of events began on April 7 when Shabina’s relative Nasreen and a man named Fayaz visited her home. The three reportedly stepped out for a short outing and later returned together. Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed, found them at the house and, in anger, filed a complaint at the mosque against all three.

On April 9, when Shabina, Nasreen, and Fayaz were summoned to the mosque, six men allegedly attacked Shabina outside the premises.

The accused have been identified as:

  • Mohammad Niyaz (32), driver
  • Mohammad Gauspeer (45), scrap dealer
  • Chand Basha (35), sugarcane juice vendor
  • Dastagir (24), bike mechanic
  • Rasool T R (42), fisherman
  • Inayat Ullah (51), local resident

All six were arrested after the assault video surfaced online. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections for conspiracy, assault, and attempted murder.
