BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired a meeting at Gulmarg to review the progress of developmental projects and the facilities available related to winter tourism in the Gulmarg sub-division.
The meeting focused on the developmental projects in the region as well as the facilities and arrangements at the world-famous Gulmarg Ski Resort for winter tourism.
The DC took a detailed and comprehensive overview of the status of various ongoing developmental projects in the Gulmarg sub-division, particularly those associated with enhancing the services for the tourists visiting Gulmarg during winter.
During the meeting, Minga Sherpa emphasized the urgency of completing all pending infrastructure development work, particularly in areas concerning road connectivity, snow clearance, healthcare facilities, electricity, and accommodation for visiting tourists.
In addition to infrastructure development, the meeting also focused on the operational aspects of winter tourism. The DC directed the AEE R&B and Mechanical to have efficient snow clearance mechanisms in place to have road connectivity to the ski resort.
Meanwhile, the DC directed the concerned officers to ensure round-the-clock availability of critical services, such as electricity and water supply, during heavy snowfall periods.
The DC further emphasized that Gulmarg’s success as a winter tourism hub hinges on the availability of modern infrastructure, safe travel conditions, and efficient services, all of which must be in place during the winter season.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Tariq Hussain; Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gulmarg, Syed Altaf Musvi; SDPO Tangmarg; Executive Engineer R&B, AEE Mechanical, and PDD, among others.
Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism organized Christmas celebrations at the iconic St. Mary’s Church at Gulmarg.
The historic church, nestled amidst the snow-clad mountains, became the focal point of the occasion, drawing tourists and locals alike to partake in the joyous festivities.
Speaking on the occasion, an official of the department emphasized the event’s significance in fostering unity and harmony, noting that it encapsulated the true spirit of Christmas. The serene and vibrant celebrations not only offered a unique cultural experience but also set the stage for the winter carnival in the region.
