New Delhi: In a shocking twist to the death of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, police have arrested his wife, Sonam, for allegedly hiring contract killers to murder him.
According to police, Sonam was found unconscious at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur on Saturday night. After being taken to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, she surrendered before police and was taken into custody.
Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that three other accused have also been arrested — one in Uttar Pradesh and two in Indore. All three allegedly confessed to being hired by Sonam to carry out the killing.
The newlywed couple had travelled to Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills for their honeymoon and went missing on May 23. A day later, their rented scooter was found abandoned at Sohrarim. After an intense 10-day search, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge near the Weisawdong Parking Lot, with a machete believed to have been used in the murder found nearby.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma lauded the police effort in cracking the case swiftly. “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved… three assailants from Madhya Pradesh arrested, female has surrendered… well done,” he wrote on X.
A local tourist guide also came forward, claiming to have seen the couple accompanied by three men on May 23. He said they were climbing from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat when last seen, adding that the couple had refused his services the previous day in favour of another guide.
The police investigation is ongoing, with one more suspect still at large.
