WhatsApp is working on a long-awaited logout feature for Android devices that may soon allow users to sign out of their account even on their primary smartphone, without uninstalling the app or deleting data, according to a new report.
As spotted by Android Authority and AssembleDebug in version 2.25.17.37 of the WhatsApp beta for Android, the new “Logout” option appears to be in development and is currently hidden within the app’s settings. The feature is reportedly located under Settings > Account and gives users three options when logging out:
Erase all Data & Preferences
Keep all Data & Preferences
Cancel

Choosing to erase data will wipe all chats and media from the device, while selecting the “Keep” option will log the user out but retain all chats, files, and preferences locally—making it easy to return and pick up where they left off.
This update is expected to benefit users who want a break from WhatsApp without deleting their account or uninstalling the app entirely. Currently, WhatsApp doesn’t support logging out, unlike other messaging platforms.
Although WhatsApp hasn’t confirmed a rollout date, the logout feature is expected to arrive for beta testers first before it becomes available on the stable channel.
