WhatsApp Rolls Out Creative Upgrades to Status

whatsapp status updates

WhatsApp is expanding its Status feature — the Stories-like component of the app — with a suite of new creative tools aimed at enhancing user expression. The update brings fresh options like collage layouts, music sharing as stickers, photo-based stickers, and a new “Add Yours” prompt feature.

Collage Layouts Now in Status

A standout addition is the new Layout tool, allowing users to combine up to six photos into a single collage frame. Users can arrange the photos freely, using different layout formats to enhance visual storytelling in their Status updates.

Music Becomes a Sticker

Building on its March rollout of music sharing for Status, WhatsApp is now introducing music stickers. Users can convert songs into visual stickers and include them in their updates — even pairing them with a selfie for a more dynamic feel.

WhatsApp is also experimenting with Spotify integration, a move that could make the app a significant channel for music sharing and promotion given its global reach.

Turn Photos into Stickers

Another new feature, Photo Stickers, allows users to transform any image into a customizable sticker for Status. Similar to Instagram’s toolset, you can resize and position the photo-sticker within the composer, unlocking new ways to personalize content.

“Add Yours” Sticker Comes to Status

WhatsApp is also adding the “Add Yours” sticker to encourage interactive content. Users can post a picture with the sticker to prompt others to respond with their own takes, which can then be shared to their own Status for broader conversation.

“Choose a picture and use the Add Yours sticker to invite friends in on the conversation,” WhatsApp explained. “When they respond to your prompt, they can share it to their status and hear what their community has to say, too.”

WhatsApp Status Becomes More Expressive

These new tools bring WhatsApp’s Status feature more in line with Instagram Stories and other visual platforms, offering users expanded creative options without leaving the app.

With over 100 million users in the U.S. and 3 billion globally, WhatsApp remains the world’s most widely used messaging platform. These enhancements not only enrich personal expression but also present new opportunities for brands, creators, and Meta itself to leverage WhatsApp’s unmatched reach.

Though many of these features already exist on sister platforms, their arrival on WhatsApp marks a meaningful evolution of the app — pushing it further from a text-first utility to a more expressive, social media-style experience.
