WhatsApp Launches Voice Chat for All Group Chats With End-to-End Encryption

WhatsApp has officially rolled out its voice chat feature to all group chats, expanding the function beyond large groups. The Meta-owned messaging platform says the update allows users to join live group audio conversations without leaving the chat or initiating a traditional voice call.

Now available across both Android and iOS devices, voice chats offer a more flexible, non-intrusive way to communicate. Unlike regular calls, they won’t ring participants — instead, group members can join or leave at will. The voice chat stays pinned at the bottom of the chat screen for quick access to controls and participant details.

To start a voice chat, users simply swipe up from the bottom of the group chat window until the “Swipe up to chat” message appears, then hold for a few seconds until the “Release to talk” and “Connect” options show.

As with personal calls and messages, end-to-end encryption is enabled by default, ensuring complete privacy. WhatsApp states that not even the platform itself can access the content of these chats.

The rollout is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing development efforts, which also include features like media download quality settings, sticker reactions, and on-device translation using downloaded language packs.
