Patna, Apr 10: A police officer was injured after a mob of villagers attacked a police team in Bihar’s Siwan district during an operation to arrest drunk men — despite the state’s liquor ban.

The incident took place in Akolhi village on Wednesday when police detained one man and put him in their vehicle. However, a group of villagers quickly gathered, attacked the team, and freed the man from custody.

A video of the attack, now viral, shows men pushing and assaulting the officer as women and children watch nearby.

This isn’t the first such incident. On Tuesday, six cops — including a woman officer — were injured during a similar raid in Rohtas, where a team was attacked with sticks and stones while trying to arrest two suspects.

Last month, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajiv Ranjan Mall lost his life after villagers clashed with police in Araria. He was leading a raid to nab a criminal when locals attacked the team. He later died of a head injury in the hospital.
