Valley parts receive light snowfall

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 29: After an extended dry spell, several parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced light snowfall on Wednesday, particularly in the higher reaches of the Valley, leading to a drop in temperatures.

Reports indicate that snowfall was recorded in Pir Panjal areas, Zojila, Razdan Pass, Sinthan Top, Sadhna Top, and other locations. The fresh snowfall occurred due to a weak Western Disturbance that began affecting the region this afternoon.

Strong winds were also reported in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had predicted light snow and rain at scattered locations starting today.

According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, light rain and snow are expected at scattered places during the night of January 29 and the morning of January 30, with isolated occurrences on January 31. He further stated that February 1 and 2 would see generally cloudy weather, with the possibility of light rain and snow at scattered to fairly widespread locations.

Additionally, cloudy weather is expected on February 3, with a chance of light snowfall in higher reaches. Light rain and snow are also likely at scattered places on February 4 and 5.
