In a late night development, the J&K Government sacked Dr SP Vaid as the Director General of Police and replaced him with Dilbagh Singh as acting Police Chief.

The move comes just days after the Government  replaced Abdul Gani Mir as Intelligence Chief of state Police with Dr B Srinivas.
Vaid 1986 IPS officer batch, was appointed as the DGP by the previous PDP-BJP government and has now been posted as Transport Commisioner.

Sources say that Vaid may not join and was likely to go on leave in protest.

As per the order Dilbag Singh, the director general of Prisons, shall hold the charge of the post of DGP in addition to his own duties till a regular arrangement is made.

In a separate order, the general administration department posted Vaid as transport commissioner with headquarters at Jammu. The post of transport commissioner has been declared equivalent to the status and responsibility of the post of DGP, it said.
Sources say that the Governors administration was far than impressed with Vaids leadership and the panic in Police generated after recent events in South Kashmir proved the last straw.

On the other hand Dilbagh Singh’s appointment as the DGP on additional charge basis for now is being seen as a move by the Government to test the waters and check the leadership qualities before appointing him as full fledged police chief.
