Tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply intensified following US missile strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, the US State Department issued a worldwide security alert, urging American citizens to exercise caution and evacuating non-essential diplomatic staff from Lebanon. Additional travel advisories have been issued for Türkiye and Saudi Arabia amid rising security concerns.
President Donald Trump claimed the US military had “completely and fully obliterated” Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Tehran, however, issued a strong warning, promising a “proportionate response” at a time and place of its choosing. The situation worsened as Israeli airstrikes targeted deep Iranian positions, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard launched retaliatory missile attacks, raising fears of a sustained regional conflict.
Iran has warned that US military bases and regional partners could be targeted if they aid in any attacks. Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that “any country used by the US to strike Iran will become a legitimate target.”
Global Alert: Heightened Security for US Citizens
The State Department’s advisory urges Americans to remain vigilant worldwide due to the “potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions” amid rising anti-US sentiment. Travel disruptions and possible airspace closures in the Middle East were also flagged, with citizens encouraged to consult updated travel guidance online.
Türkiye: Avoid Southeast, Remain Discreet
The US Embassy in Türkiye advised personnel and citizens to avoid the Adana consular district in the southeast, encompassing 22 provinces. The alert cited anti-American sentiment manifesting in protests, graffiti, or boycotts, and urged Americans to avoid public places associated with the US or Israel and to stay updated via local media.
Lebanon: Diplomatic Staff Pulled Out
In Lebanon, the State Department ordered the departure of non-emergency staff and their families due to an “unpredictable security environment.” While Beirut’s airport remains functional, some flights have been cancelled or suspended. The embassy encouraged citizens to depart while commercial travel remains available.
Saudi Arabia: Steer Clear of Military Zones
A separate advisory from the US Mission to Saudi Arabia recommended avoiding non-essential travel to military installations, citing the region’s volatile situation following Israeli strikes and US military involvement. Americans were advised to have personal emergency plans in place and review their travel arrangements.
Conflict Escalates: US-Israel-Iran Triangle
Amid these alerts, Israeli air raids have intensified, striking Iranian targets in Tehran, Hamedan, and Kermanshah. Iran responded with long-range missile launches at Israel and pledged further retaliation. At the United Nations, Iran’s envoy accused the US of sabotaging diplomacy. Despite the damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, officials in Tehran asserted their program remains active. “Even if nuclear sites are destroyed, the game isn’t over,” said Khamenei’s advisor Ali Shamkhani.
