UNHCR files intervention plea in SC over CAA

New Delhi :The United Nations human rights chief has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court in connection with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, prompting New Delhi to say on Tuesday that no foreign party has locus standi on issues related to the countrys sovereignty.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India’s permanent mission in Geneva was informed on Monday evening by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, that her office had filed the intervention application in the Supreme Court.

“We are clear the CAA constitutionally valid, complies with requirements of constitutional values,” the MEA said.
