Srinagar, Sep 1: Urging people to participate in Panchayat and urban local body elections, the newly-appointed Governor, Satya Pal Malik, on Saturday said the polls were neither for India or Pakistan nor will they resolve Kashmir issue.

“These elections are not for India and Pakistan neither will resolve Kashmir issue. But they will empower people and resolve their developmental issues,” Malik said in his first public address at the launch of India Post payments Bank.

He said the elected persons could get funds and spent on developmental works.

The State Administrative Council (SAC) has decided that the elections to Municipal Bodies will be conducted in four phases between October 1 and 5.

Similarly, the SAC has decided that elections to Panchayats will be conducted in eight phases in November.
