Two cops killed in Pulwama militant attack

Srinagar: Two policemen were killed and another critically injured after militants attacked police post guarding the new court complex in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Official sources said that a group of militants opened fire upon the police post resulting in on spot death of two security guards and injury to another at Takiya Wagam opposite to Government Degree College Pulwama near Barpora Kareemabad.
The injured cop Manzoor Ahmad has been shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment, they said.
The militants after carrying out the deadly attack decamped with two service rifles from the slain cops, they said.
The deceased cops have been identified as Selection Grade Constables Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Hassan.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said that two cops were killed and another suffered injuries.
The spokesman in a statement said : “At the onset of first light today, militants fired indiscriminately on a guard post at Court in Pulwama in which three Jawans sustained injuries.”
“Two of the Jawans succumbed to the injuries and attained martyrdom in this incident while the other injured jawan has been shifted to the Hospital for medical treatment,” police spokesman said.
There were emotional scenes from every corner of north Kashmir’s Rafiabad belt when dead body of slain police cop reached his native village on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite fasting and hot weather conditions Wohlutra village of Rafiabad witnessed a huge funeral procession for a Policeman who was killed in a militant attack along with other cop in court complex in southern region of Kashmir at wee hours of Tuesday.
Reports said as the body reached his home, an entire village in Rafiabad came out to mourn the slain cop.
Deceased was the only bread earner of ten members of family including four children and old aged parents locals said.Meanwhile locals said that it was one of the biggest funeral processions for a police cop in the area.
The funeral was held at his native village Wohlutra, in which people in thousands participated.
Ghulam Hassan Wagay was a good human being and never troubled any villager. He always used to help his neighbors and will be missed by everybody in the village locals added while rolling down tears from eyes. They said that deceased was a pious human being and would lead Friday prayers in local Mosque.Slain Wagay was laid to rest amid wails and sobs.
