Jammu, June 05: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the train to Kashmir will benefit people and stop the looting of the airlines.

Speaking to the reporters, Omar said the Vande Bharat train project was started when he was in the 7th standard.

“If I tell you that I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, it will still not be enough. This rail project began when I was in the 7th or 8th class. Now, even my children have started working after completing school and college. But, better late than never…tomorrow PM will inaugurate the Vande Bharat services and it will benefit us…,” Omar said

He said the closure of highways will have the least impact on people and the loot of airlines will come to an end. “Airlines loot us when the highway gets closed. We are being charged Rs 20,000 for a ticket instead of Rs 5,000 when the highway gets closed. It will also boost our apple industry,” he said.

Omar added that the Vande Bharat train has already set multiple records, including being run on Chenab bridge, the world’s tallest railway bridge, and also on the country’s longest railway bridge – Anji Bridge.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Jitendra Singh today inspected Katra railway station and the Vande Bharat train ahead of PM Modi’s visit tomorrow.

Earlier, Omar visited the tallest railway bridge in the world, the Chenab Bridge, to review arrangements for the visit of the Hon Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.

In a post on X, Omar Abdullah wrote, “Visited the tallest railway bridge in the world, The Chenab Bridge, to review arrangements for the visit of the Hon PM @narendramodi ji tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow is a landmark day for J&K when, finally, the valley will be connected to the rest of the country by a railway link to be inaugurated at the hands of the Hon PM,”  he added.
