Srinagar, December 18: Srinagar Smart City Limited has launched an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) and an e-Challan system to enhance traffic management in the city.

The ITMS includes several features aimed at streamlining urban traffic. Advanced cameras are deployed for real-time traffic monitoring to manage flow and respond to incidents efficiently. Smart traffic signals with intelligent controllers adjust signal timings based on real-time conditions to minimize delays.

Over 1,050 cameras have been installed for automated rule enforcement.

These cameras detect violations such as red-light jumping, overspeeding, mobile phone usage while driving, and riding without a helmet. The e-Challan system processes traffic violations digitally, ensuring transparency and efficiency in enforcement.

“This initiative focuses on improving traffic management and road safety,” said Owais Ahmed, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited.

The ITMS and e-Challan system are key components of Srinagar Smart City’s broader efforts to utilize technology for improving urban infrastructure and services.

On the first day of ITMS, about 200 e-challans were issued all over the city, and the initiative is just beginning as today is the first day of the ITMS system.

Muzaffar Shah, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City said, “The system minimizes human interface and ensures law enforcement is evidence-based, transparent, and efficient.”

He said this is a regular process and with the introduction of ITMS, the system will monitor traffic movement and various traffic violations while the software generates challans in real-time.
