Srinagar, Jan 02: In its ongoing efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society, Srinagar Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
During a patrol near JVC Hospital Bemina, police intercepted a man attempting to flee upon spotting the team. The individual, identified as Javid Ahmad Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone of Khargam Pattan (currently residing in Mansoor Colony, Bemina), was apprehended, and 44 grams of charas-like substance were seized from him.
In another operation, Nowgam Police intercepted Reyaz Ahmed Shah, son of Gulzar Ahmed Shah of Check-e-Pahroo, at Ganjipora during a patrol along the Pahroo-Kenihama axis. A search led to the recovery of 39 kilograms of cannabis powder concealed in two nylon bags.
Cases under relevant legal provisions have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway. Both accused have been taken into custody.
The public is urged to report drug peddling or any crime to the nearest police station or by dialing 112. Police request community cooperation to combat the drug menace and assure strict action against offenders in accordance with the law.
