Srinagar, Sep 15: The upper reaches of Kashmir received first light snowfall of the season on Saturday, resulting in chill in the plains.
A Met official said upper reaches of the Valley, including the Zojila pass (11600 ft high), Drass and Minamarg, on the Srinagar-Leh national highway received light snowfall on Saturday morning.
However, despite mild snowfall, the 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway was open for traffic despite the mild snowfall, he said.
The snowfall brought down the night and day temperatures in the Valley. As cold breeze from the snow-clad mountains plummeted temperature, people were forced to put on woollen clothes, including the traditional pheran (gown).
