SMHS attack: Uproar in Assembly; Govt says investigation on

Jammu, Feb 07: Admitting security lapse in Tuesday’s attack at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, the J&K Government on Wednesday announced a thorough investigation to look into such lapses.

Two cops of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed and a Pakistani militant managed to escape after the attack.

Reacting to the demand of opposition members, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that the government would investigate security lapses in the incident. He said the opposition’s concerns were genuine.

Earlier, as soon as the proceedings of the House began opposition members vociferously raised the issue of Tuesday’s militant attack.

National Conference member Ali Mohammad Sagar said the attack has exposed the tall claims of the state government. He said that on the one hand, the state government is claiming that the situation is conducive for conducting panchayat elections, but on the other, militants struck in the heart of Srinagar.

Minister for Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the House that FIR No: 8/28 US 302,224 RPC and 7/27 IA Act has been registered in Police Station Karan Nagar Srinagar regarding the militant attack on a police party in SMHS Hospital and investigation has been taken up.

Giving details, the Minister said a Pakistani militant managed to escape from the Police custody after militants attack a Police party in SMHS hospital Srinagar.

Giving details about the incident, Minister said on February 06, 2018 at around 11:30, a Pakistani militant Mohammad Naveed Jatt alias Abu Hanzla alias Choti lodged in Central Jail Srinagar was brought to SMHS Hospital Srinagar along with five more detenues escorted by the Police party of DPL Srinagar.

He said as soon as they reached OPD of SMHS, the Police party accompanying the militant was attacked by some unknown militants by pistol due to which two Police personnel namely Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmad and Constable Babar Khan got injured and later succumbed.

He said the Pakistani militant Naveed along with the attacker managed to escape from the spot.
