SRINAGAR, JULY 05: The Municipal Employees Welfare Association (MEWA) of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has formally constituted a new Executive Body. The announcement was made following a meeting held at the association’s Karan Nagar office.
The reconstitution of the Executive Body has been authorized through a formal order issued by MEWA President Nazir Ahmad Ahanger and Chairman Fayaz Ahmad Mir. According to the association, the move is intended to strengthen the organisation’s foundational goals, streamline its functioning, and work actively for the social and economic well-being of SMC employees.
Sajid Ashraf, the newly appointed Press and Publicity Secretary of MEWA, said the fresh leadership brings with it a renewed spirit of collaboration and vision. “The Executive Body represents a dynamic and committed team, chosen to uphold the association’s objectives and by-laws, while addressing employees’ issues with professionalism and dedication,” Ashraf said.
The new leadership, he added, is expected to usher in a period of constructive engagement with both municipal authorities and the broader SMC employee community. “This marks a new era of employee-centric governance within SMC,” Ashraf said.
The formation of the Executive Body is being seen as a response to growing expectations among municipal workers, many of whom have long demanded a more responsive and proactive welfare association. MEWA’s announcement has been welcomed by several employee groups, who expressed hope that the new team will prioritize transparency, welfare schemes, and prompt redressal of staff grievances.
