Should have started far earlier, can still make up though: Mayor on COVID19 containment

Srinagar, Mar 20: Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu would be meeting Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu on Friday to discuss further escalating the containmaint efforts in view of the deadly coronavirus outbreak that has rattled the entire world including Kashmir.

The Mayor said he was of the view that the authorities should have started preparing far earlier to deal with the pandemic but added that they can still make up.
Mattu, whose exhaustive efforts to sanitise the city have been appreciated by all, tweeted Friday morning that he would meet the Lt. Governor to seek “escalation of efforts”.
“Am calling on the Lt. Governor at Jammu today to seek escalation of efforts to fight #COVID2019 in J&K at large and with specific requests about #Srinagar. I, without a doubt, believe we could be doing better and should’ve started preparing FAR earlier but still time to make up,” the Mayor tweeted.


The global pandemic has taken devoured several thousand lives with nearly two hundred thousand positive cases being detected across continents.
Kashmir saw its firsy5 positive case when a Srinagar woman, who had travel history to Saudi Arabia, contracted the virus and was declared COVID19 positive Wednesday evening.
It triggered panic across the valley as people thronged to buy supplies, and authorities placed curbs, especially in the old-city areas from where the woman comes.
