Senior Bar lawyers to defend Art 35A in SC

Srinagar, Feb 11:The Executive Committee of the Bar Association Srinagar, in a meeting held today at District Court Complex, Moominabad Srinagar, under the Presidentship of its President,Miya Abdul Qayoum has decided to advise all the members of the team constituted for opposing the petitions filed by “We the Citizens” and others for striking down Article 35-A of the Constitution of India, to remain present in the Supreme Court of India on 13th and 14th of February, 2019, as all the cases relating to the matter, are listed before the court on the aforesaid dates, for final disposal.

The members of the team, who have been advised to do so are as follows: -1.M. A. Qayoom, President; 2. Mr. Aijaz Bedar, Vice President; 3. Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Secretary,4. Mr. Adil Asimi, Joint Secretary; Bilal Ahmad Wani, Treasurer; Z. A. Shah, Senior Advocate;Z. A. Qureshi, Senior Advocate; Riyaz Jan, Senior Advocate; Altaf Haqani, Advocate; Mufti Mehraj-ud-din, Advocate; Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Advocate; N. A. Ronga, Advocate; M. S. Reshi, Advocate;Arshad Andrabi, Advocate; and Bashir Sidiq, Advocate.

It was also decided that the team members will meet in Delhi on 12th of February, 2019 positively, so as to devise a strategy for defending Article 35-A, seriously and effectively, before the Court.

It was also decided that any other member of the Bar Association who may be willing to join the team in Delhi is also welcome.

Meanwhile, taking a strong notice of the events which have led to the arrest of two lawyers namely Musavir Ahmad Mir, Advocate and Aamir Masoodi, Advocate, who are accused of having fabricated a bail order to facilitate the release of certain accused persons, it was decided to suspend one of them namely Aamir Masoodi, Advocate from the basic membership of the Bar Association till the outcome of the criminal case registered against him and also not to allow the other Advocate namely Musavir Ahmad Mir, who is not a member of the Bar Association, to avail any of the facilities of the Bar Association, in any manner whatsoever.
