Budgam: A school bus belonging to IPTS School, Khansahib, plunged into a gorge in the Neego Brenwar area of Budgam district on Friday, leaving the driver dead and two students injured.
The deceased driver has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Lone, son of Zahoor Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kechwari, Khansahib. Officials said he died on the spot after losing control of the vehicle, which skidded off the road and fell into a gorge.
The injured students, Tanzil-ul-Islam and Illaf Ahmad, both residents of Raiyar, Khansahib, were rescued and shifted to Community Health Centre Surasyar before being referred to Sub-District Hospital Chadoora. They were later shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialized treatment.
A rescue operation was launched by local residents and authorities soon after the accident. The cause of the mishap is under investigation, and further details are awaited.
