Srinagar, Dec 7: The much-anticipated Sanat Nagar flyover along the Srinagar expressway bypass on NH44 is expected to be operational by April 2025, according to an official statement.
To streamline traffic at Bemina, Sanat Nagar, and Nowgam intersections, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) proposed the construction of three short flyovers along NH44 in 2020. While the flyovers at Nowgam and Bemina intersections were opened earlier this year, delays hindered the timely completion of the Sanat Nagar flyover.
An official from the Roads and Buildings Department attributed the delay to approval challenges and the need to relocate major utilities along the route. “The other grade separators progressed swiftly, but the Sanat Nagar flyover faced approval-related delays,” the official noted.
Chief Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department, Sajjad Naqeeb, confirmed that the Rs 45 crore project is now progressing on schedule and will be completed by April 2025. “The work is advancing swiftly, and the flyover will be ready for public use by then,” Naqeeb said.
The Sanat Nagar intersection has long been a traffic bottleneck, causing significant frustration for commuters. Once completed, the project is expected to eliminate this major congestion point on the Srinagar expressway bypass.
Additionally, a Rs 133 crore project has been approved for the Srinagar bypass, which includes an overhead bridge near the Children’s Hospital, a vehicular overpass at Muminabad Junction, and a 2-kilometer flyover along the Parimpora-Shalteng stretch, further easing traffic flow in the city.
