Restoration of essential services underway: Govt

Srinagar, Nov 8: District administrations across the Kashmir division Friday cleared snow from major and link roads after heavy snowfall lashed Kashmir Valley.

District Development Commissioners visited various areas in their respective jurisdictions to take stock of the situation and review snow clearance and restoration of essential services.

At KULGAM, DDC Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat visited power Grid station Kulgam to take firsthand appraisal of the steps taken for power restoration in the district.

Concerned officers of PDD informed the DDC that men and machinery is working on mission mode for restoration of power supply.

DDC also conducted extensive tour of Devsar, Pahloo, Brazloo and other villages to monitor snow clearance process and took stock of availability of essentials there. He also interacted with the people and enquired about the availability of essentials in their areas. He was accompanied by ADC, ACR and other officers.

Later, DDC visited Ziyarat Shareef Mir Syed Ali Simnani (RA) where he took stock of arrangements which have been put in place for celebration of Eid Milad.

He also interacted with the local Auqaf committee to enquire about the arrangements about water, sanitation etc.

On the occasion DDC directed the Executive officer Municipality Kulgam to ensure snow clearance from all lanes in Kulgam within shortest possible time especially lanes leading to Ziyarat shareef.

The EO briefed the DDC about the arrangements which have put in place for celebration of Eid Milad. He informed the DDC that fresh lights had been installed near Ziyarat Shareef.

At Shopian, District Development Commissioner Shopian, Choudhary Muhammad Yasin convened a meeting to review the snow clearance work in the district, besides checking stock and supply position of essential commodities.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Executive Engineers of R&B, PDD, STD, PHE, Irrigation, Mughal Road, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Director Food; Tehsildar Shopian other concerned officers and engineers.

Issues with regard to snow clearance, power and water supply, medicare, transport and other facilities were discussed in the meeting. The DDC also took a comprehensive review of stock and supply position of food grains and other essential commodities.

It was discussed in the meeting that all the roads including Shopian- Srinagar, and Shopian-Bijbehara are open and traffic on these roads is plying normally. Reviewing the stock and supply position, the DDC was briefed that sufficient stock of essential commodities including rice and LPG is available in the district.

The DDC also took stock of other essential services including Health and drinking water facilities. He impressed upon the officers to be proactive and ensure that every possible facility is provided to the masses. He also asked the district and sectoral officers to personally monitor the field functionaries so that the people don’t face any inconvenience during winters.

At Baramulla, Deputy Commissioner, G N Itoo today visited various areas of Pattan and adjoining areas to take stock of the damage caused due to the recent snowfall.

He visited Nihalpora where a transmission line has been severely damaged and directed the concerned authorities to ensure its restoration as soon as possible. He also visited various areas where apple orchards have also been damaged by the snow.

 During the visit, he was informed that a number of trees have fallen due to which the power supply remained affected in certain areas.

On the occasion,  DC said various committees have been constituted to   assess  losses to the crops and vegetables.

Earlier, the DC inspected Sub District Hospital Pattan where he interacted with patients from whom he enquired about the medical facilities being provided to them. He impressed upon the hospital management to ensure proper heating arrangements in the hospital.

At Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza today toured various villages of Bandipora to take stock of snow clearance, restoration of electricity and availability of essential commodities in the district.

During his tour the DC interacted with people at various places. He inspected various ration Ghats and took stock of   availability of rice and other essential commodities.

DDC said there is sufficient amount of stock of ration and LPG cylinders available besides sufficient amount of essentials dumped for snow bound areas.

Later the DC visited Ziyarat Shareef Ahmshareef and took stock of facilities and arrangements put in place for the celebration of Eid Milad.

At Ganderbal, Deputy Commissioner Hashmat Ali Khan visited DH Ganderbal and SDH Kangan to take stock facilities being provided to patients and availability of medicines.

DDC also visited various areas of district to take stock of snow clearance on major roads, restoration of water and power supply and availability of ration in the far flung areas. He directed officials to restore power supply as soon as possible.
