Gandhinagar: Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) marked five years of dedicated service to the nation with its landmark Fifth Convocation held at the Lavad campus on Tuesday. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the as Chief Guest, while National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval was conferred the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to India’s national security.
The ceremony was also attended by Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, and Governor Acharya Devvrat, among other dignitaries.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the university highlighted its steady growth and expanding role in the field of security education at both national and global levels. Over the years, RRU has developed into a pan-India institution with campuses across several states and Union Territories, including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Each campus focuses on region-specific security challenges, contributing to capacity building in areas such as policing, disaster management, maritime security, border protection and cyber resilience.
During the convocation, a total of 563 degrees and diplomas were awarded across multiple disciplines, including internal security, defence and strategic studies, cybersecurity, forensics, and international security. These included PhDs, MPhils, postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma qualifications.
In her address, President Murmu described RRU as a unique institution representing India’s integrated civil-military academic approach. She commended its faculty and leadership for their commitment to national service and emphasised that the country’s security depends on a coordinated national effort. Highlighting emerging challenges, she noted that modern security spans diverse domains such as cyberspace, defence technology, data systems and maritime awareness.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s description of RRU as “a jewel of the country,” the President underlined the university’s role in shaping future security professionals and policymakers. She also pointed to India’s growing strength in defence manufacturing, digital policing and cyber governance as signs of increasing strategic maturity.
The event witnessed participation from senior officials of the Ministries of Home and Defence, members of the armed forces, central police organisations, academia, industry and the diplomatic community.
Reaffirming its commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, RRU emphasised its focus on education, research, training and innovation to develop skilled, disciplined and ethically grounded leaders. The Fifth Convocation underscored India’s resolve to strengthen its security framework through knowledge, professionalism and national dedication.
