Rajouri Boxer Yasser Wins Asian Gold



Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council on Thursday congratulated Rajouri’s young boxer Mohammad Yasser for winning the gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship in Uzbekistan, terming it a historic achievement for Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
Yasser, who trains at the Khelo India Centre in Rajouri, overcame financial hardships and difficult circumstances to emerge as a continental champion through hard work and determination.
During the championship, he registered impressive victories against boxers from Kazakhstan and Iran before clinching the gold medal in the final.
The Sports Council said Yasser’s success reflects the growing sports culture and talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir due to improved infrastructure, grassroots programmes and Khelo India initiatives.
Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, also congratulated the boxer and described the victory as a proud moment for the Union Territory. He said the achievement highlights the immense sporting potential of J&K youth and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening sports at the grassroots level.
The achievement sparked celebrations across Rajouri and among the sporting fraternity, with many hailing Yasser as a symbol of perseverance and the rising sporting spirit of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Sports Council extended best wishes to Mohammad Yasser for future international competitions and expressed confidence that he would continue to bring laurels to the Union Territory.
