Rain, thundershowers likely in Kashmir parts in next 2-3 hours: MeT

Srinagar, July 02: Amid the ongoing heatwave across Jammu and Kashmir, the Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in several parts of Kashmir and Udhampur over the next 2–3 hours.

According to officials, some areas in north and central Kashmir could experience intense downpours accompanied by gusty winds, potentially triggering flash floods.

“A spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower is expected over Kupwara, Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kangan, Gund-Sonamarg axis, parts of Srinagar, and some areas of Udhampur in the next few hours,” a MeT official said.

He added that Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal may receive particularly intense showers, increasing the risk of flash floods and gusty winds.

Authorities have also issued a caution for possible landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
