Progress of 21st Livestock Census reviewed in UT

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 08: V.P. Singh, Director of the Animal Husbandry Statistics Division within the Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India, along with Dr. Parvinder Singh, Director of Animal Husbandry Kashmir, convened a meeting to assess and monitor the progress of the 21st Livestock Census in Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting provided a detailed review of challenges and strategies to ensure accurate enumeration.

During the session, district nodal officers were directed to ensure real-time data uploads and address any existing backlogs comprehensively. Special attention was given to the livestock census concerning the pastoralist community, with reports indicating that data on this group has already been compiled. The Government of India is formulating policies to enhance welfare and healthcare for pastoralists’ livestock, with migratory livestock set to be a priority in upcoming policies.

The livestock census, conducted every five years across the country under the supervision of the Government of India, is currently in its 21st iteration.

The meeting was attended by Chief Animal Husbandry Officers, District Nodal Officers, the Deputy Director of Planning, and the Deputy Director Central, who discussed ways to streamline the census process and address any emerging issues.
