Prez accepts Talat’s resignation as VC Jamia Millia

Prof Talat is new VC Kashmir University

New Delhi, Aug 06: The President of India has accepted the resignation of Jamia Millia Islamia University Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad. Prof Ahmad has been appointed as the VC of Kashmir University by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Prof Ahmad submitted his resignation on July 25 to the President, Visitor to the University. He was appointed as the VC of Jamia in May 2014 after then VC Najeeb Jung relinquished the post.

Prior to joining Jamia, Prof Ahmad was serving as the VC of Kashmir University. Prof Ahmad, an Earth Scientist, has been associated with the Department of Geology, University of Delhi, for over a decade. Prof Ahmad’s term at Jamia was mired in controversy with allegations of misuse of VC office and causing financial irregularities. He was later given a clean chit by the UGC appointed probe committee.

Prof Ahmad hails from Giridih in Jharkhand did his Masters in Geology at Aligarh Muslim University and went on to complete his PhD in Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1985. He has also served as Post-Doctoral Fellow with three foreign universities, University of Leicester, U.K., the University of Cambridge and the Nagoya University, Japan.
