SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 21: In a bid to curb the misuse of SIM cards and enforce regulatory compliance, the District Police Srinagar Saturday rolled out a comprehensive inspection drive to tackle the issue.
In the drive, special teams from all five zones of the district are ensuring that SIM cards are issued only to individuals with valid credentials so that there will be reinforcement in security besides accountability across the region.
An official statement said in an effort to prevent the misuse of SIM cards and ensure compliance with established regulations, District Police Srinagar has initiated a comprehensive drive for inspection of SIM card vendors. It read that the initiative aims to ensure that SIM cards are issued strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules and guidelines.
“Special teams from each police station in all five zones of District Srinagar have been deployed to carry out the drive within their respective jurisdictions. During the first day of the drive, a meticulous scrutiny of over a 100 SIM card vendors was conducted to verify that SIM cards are being issued exclusively to individuals with genuine credentials,” it reads.
The statement further reads that the drive is a part of an ongoing effort to promote lawful usage of SIM cards and strengthen accountability in their distribution. “The District Police remains committed to safeguarding the public and maintaining the integrity of communication networks in order to prevent the misuse of SIMs for criminal activities. Further inspections will continue in the coming days to achieve the mandatory objective of security of all citizens,” it reads.
Meanwhile, Police in Anantnag also conducted a comprehensive district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors. The initiative aimed to ensure strict compliance with guidelines for SIM card sales and activations while supporting law enforcement efforts.
The inspection focused on verifying adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, proper documentation, and preventing unauthorized issuance of SIM cards. Vendors were monitored to ensure their operations comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
