New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the size of his convoy during recent domestic visits while maintaining all mandatory security arrangements under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols, sources said on Tuesday.
According to sources, the reduction in the number of vehicles in the Prime Minister’s convoy was implemented during his recent visits to Gujarat and Assam after his address in Hyderabad.
Sources said that despite the smaller convoy, all crucial security measures continued in accordance with SPG guidelines to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety.
In another initiative aimed at promoting sustainability, PM Modi has directed officials to include Electric Vehicles (EVs) in his convoy wherever feasible without making any fresh purchases, sources added.
The move is being viewed as part of the Prime Minister’s push for economic resilience and reduced dependence on imported fuel through environmentally sustainable alternatives.
Addressing a gathering in Secunderabad recently, Modi said patriotism today is not limited to defending the nation at the borders but also includes responsible behaviour in everyday life.
“Patriotism is about fulfilling our duties towards the nation through responsible living,” the Prime Minister had said.
He urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport, car-pooling and electric vehicles more frequently.
PM Modi also appealed to people to cut down edible oil consumption to reduce import dependence and encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices by limiting the use of chemical fertilisers.
He said India spends a large amount of foreign exchange on the import of edible oil and chemical fertilisers, stressing the need to safeguard both the economy and the environment through sustainable practices.
