PDP MLAs keep Mufti’s guessing

SRINAGAR, July 5: Amid reports of growing revolt within the party, most of the PDP legislators are maintaining suspense over their decision of continuing with the party.

Disgruntled PDP leader and MLA Zadibal, Abid Ansari, claimed that 14 party legislators are mulling to leave the party.

“We are holding talks and everything will be clear in a week,” Abid told The Kashmir Monitor.

Among the 14 legislators, Abid claimed that Abdul Majeed Padroo, Mushtaq Shah, Haq Khan, Ashraf Mir, Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Rahim Rather, Shahid Tantary, Chowdhary Qamar Ali, Javaid Beigh, and Mohammad Abbas Wani were leaving the party.

“I talked to them. We want to end the family system in the PDP. We want to expose a few PDP leaders,” Abid said.

Asked if they would support any party for government formation, he said, “We will think over it. Everything will be clear in a few days.”

However, most of these MLAs either maintained silence or rubbished the reports of leaving the PDP.

The MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, said he would not leave the party.

“So far, I have not thought over it,” Shah said. “Some leaders may be unhappy. So far, I have not decided of leaving the party.”

Former Minister, Abdul Haq Khan, evaded the questions.

“I will talk to you later,” he said and dropped the phone, when asked by this reporter whether he was mulling to leave the party.

The MLA Shopian, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, said he would not leave the party.

“I am happy with the party leadership,” he said.

MLA Noorabad Abdul Majeed Padroo said he had left the PDP.

“I have not joined any other political party so far, if any political party approaches me for government formation, I may support it,” Padroo told The Kashmir Monitor.

He said Governor’s Rule was not the solution.

MLA Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, said he would never leave the PDP.

“I have full faith in the party leadership. Mehbooba ji did nothing wrong,” Mir said.

Several other PDP MLAs neither defended Mehbooba nor opposed Mehbooba.

Will hold parlays with disgruntled leaders: PDP

Srinagar, Jul 05: Reacting over the statements of its leaders, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said that the party would hold parlays with disgruntled leaders soon to address their grievances.

PDP chief spokesperson, Rafi Ahmad Mir said that though party has not taken any cognizance over the statements made by the disgruntled leaders as the party president, Mehbooba Mufti is out of station.

He said that once the president arrives here, they will take cognizance over the statements made by the leaders. “We will not appreciate the statements made by the leaders so far but they are part of the party and may have expressed their anger earlier as well. Once we start the party activities, we will hold parlays with them and we hope that the alienation would come to end,” he said.

“We hope that redressal of the grievances will be done and no harsh step will be taken against any leader as these persons have played pivotal role in the party and were chosen by the former chief minister, Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. We don’t want to harm the party,” he added.

“We appeal the party leaders that there was no need to get disgruntled as party leadership was putting every effort to do best. We want to help the people and at present they need us. People may be against us but we have done whatever was possible during our tenure and will try to do in the future as well,” he said.
