Pashmina Shawls of Kashmir

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 07: The timeless artistry of Kashmir is being celebrated at the ongoing Grameen Bharat Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, through the participation of Kanisoz Shawl Producer Company from Bandipora, Jammu & Kashmir. The event, organized by NABARD and the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, showcases rural craftsmanship and innovation from across the country.

Kanisoz Shawl Producer Company, established in 2019, is presenting a range of handcrafted pashmina creations, including shawls, kurtis, pherans, and suit pieces. The company specializes in traditional Sozni embroidery and the intricate weaving of Kani pashmina shawls and carpets, reflecting the rich heritage of Kashmir. Each piece represents meticulous craftsmanship, with some carpets taking up to two months to complete.

The Mahotsav, which concludes on January 9, aims to promote rural development through workshops, discussions, and exhibitions. It highlights rural artistry while fostering financial inclusion and sustainable practices, with a special emphasis on empowering women entrepreneurs and artisans. Kanisoz’s participation underscores the importance of preserving traditional crafts while providing a platform to connect Kashmir’s artisans with wider markets, ensuring the survival of these age-old techniques.
