New Delhi, Apr 28: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on security preparedness following the Pahalgam terror attack.
This comes a day after Singh met the Chief of General Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan to discuss the key decisions taken up by the military to counter Pakistan following the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Earlier on Sunday, the Defence Minister held a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan. The 2 discussed the country’s defence preparedness in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead. Those killed were mostly tourists.
The meeting on Sunday was at the residence of the Defence Minister and lasted for around 40 minutes. General Chahuhan briefed Singh about the preparedness of the military and its operational readiness to counter terrorism in the country. The meeting with PM Modi, just a day later, is likely to brief the PM about the discussions that Rajnath Singh had with the CDS.
Post-Pahalgam attack, India has increased its military preparedness. Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert following the terror attack on April 22. The PM has already warned that the perpetrators of the attack will not be spared.
Following the attack, in which Pakistani nationals were involved, the government closed the Attari border. In possibly the strongest reaction from India in recent times, the country suspended the Indus Water Treaty with the neighbouring country. They have also asked all Pakistan nationals living in India to leave by May 1. All the states have been asked to ensure that no Pakistani nationals stay back in the state. The defence attachés of the Pakistan Embassy were also asked to leave New Delhi.
