Jammu, May 29: The second edition of the nationwide civil defence mock drill, “Operation Shield,” initially set for May 29, has been rescheduled to May 31 due to administrative adjustments, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the large-scale exercise aims to bolster preparedness in the event of enemy attacks and will be conducted simultaneously across all western states and Union Territories sharing a border with Pakistan, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Beginning at 5 PM, the drill will simulate a range of emergency scenarios such as mock air raids, drone threats, blackout protocols, and mass evacuation procedures. The exercise will involve Civil Defence volunteers, local administrative units, and youth organisations like the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS).

Authorities emphasize that the mock drill is a proactive measure to enhance civilian readiness and inter-agency coordination in the face of evolving cross-border security challenges.
